Advanced Information Technology Management
The E-Commerce Management Concentration
Upon completion of the core, students complete
the following three courses.
Term IV
Information Technology IT4124. Web design, information architecture, and
usability.
A study of the critical elements essential to successful Web site management
and construction, focusing on the creative design process, user interface and
information layout, hierarchical organization and management of the Web creative
department, usability testing, and other issues relevant ot planning an building
premium commercial sites.
Information Technology IT4126. Web strategy, structure, and marketing.
An examination of the processes necessary for defining and setting Web strategy
in the e-commerce arena. The course reviews the history of the medium, analyzing
the landscape and concentrating on strategies, identity, branding and positioning,
advertising, definition of goals, and marketing. The management and life cycle
of a typical e-commerce startup is analyzed, including capitalization, growth
and exit strategies.
Term V
Information Technology IT4119. Management for businesses and dot coms.
A stdy of the critical business factors for managing and operating a Web-based
commercial venture, with special emphasis on the "dot com" Internet startup
arena. Issues such as staffing, roles and responsibilities, organization/culture,
external agencies, and growth are investigated. Resource leveraging methods
such as partnering and bartering are traced, as well as the core infrastructure
of hosting operations, Each student will present a viable business plan to be
reviewed and examined through roundtable discussions and critiques.
