Network Administration and Design (NAAD)
- The program's instructional staff is composed of experienced computer and
information technology professionals with extensive backgrounds in the corporate
and private sectors.
- Computer teaching professionals in committee serve as academic advisers
to the program.
- The committee works closely with instructors to ensure that the current
CTA curriculum responds in a timely manner to innovations in computer technology
and equips graduates to compete strongly for professional advancement.
Kenneth
Winston, Chair
Kenneth Winston is the Director of Network Technologies for Thirteen/WNET New
York. With over ten years' experience in the information and telecommunications
fields, Mr. Winston has been involved in the design, development, and management
of many complex network and information systems. Mr. Winston is both a Microsoft
Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT). He
holds the B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College.
John
Bieger, Track Adviser
John Bieger is a managing consultant with HP Consulting's Management Solutions
Practice, where he leads a team of consultants specializing in the architecture,
design, and implementation of solutions for the management of distributed IT
infrastructures. Bieger has 22 years experience in computer-related industries
including IT strategy and solutions consulting, architecture of IT management
systems, and product deployment. He has been teaching networking technology
in the CTA Program for ten years. Prior to that he earned a certificate in telecommunications
from the program. He holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering
from the Stevens Institute of Technology.
Laura
Brown
Laura Brown is a business communication specialist with extensive experience
as a trainer, writer, and editor. As a corporate consultant she designs and
delivers small-group and one-on-one communication training programs for corporate
clients, including organizations in the banking, insurance, and accounting industries,
among others. Additionally, Brown teaches writing and business communication
at the college level and has extensive experience working with adult students
through Columbia's School of General Studies and Iona College. As a writer and
editor, Dr. Brown has collaborated on a number of business and technology books,
including The Art of Analysis by Dr. Arthur M. Langer. Brown holds a Ph.D. in
English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University and an M.A. in Drama
from the University of London.

Zachary
Djimas
Zachary Djimas has been working in the information technologies industry for
the past ten years. In 1990, he left the field of culinary arts to pursue a
career change which led to UNIX and database administration. During this time,
he has had exposure to a variety of business environments including software
development, publishing, distribution, insurance, financial institutions, and
database warehousing. Currently, he works as a senior-level UNIX Administrator
for such organizations as Merrill Lynch and John Hancock. He offers his clients
additional skills in database administration, intranet development, hardware
implementation, system analysis, capacity planning, and project management.
Stephen Holtz
Stephen Holtz is a LAN and ccMail administrator for WPIX-TV,
WGN Cable Sales, and Tribune Entertainment Company Sales. He
holds Microsoft certification as a systems engineer as well
as MCP +Internet.
Andrezj Koltun
Tai
M. Lee
Tai Lee is a project manager for Enterprise Solution Providers, a leading full-service
consultancy that provides comprehensive solutions for enterprise-wide technology
initiatives. As an ESP consultant, he was involved with the launching of Merrill
Lynch's online trading Web site. Prior to joining ESP, he was a senior technician
on the Compaq Services Project Enterprise migration team at all Citicorp sites
in the New York metropolitan area. In his capacity as a desktop lead, he was
responsible for ensuring a smooth transition of all users to the Windows NT
environment. He has worked for Chase Manhattan Bank and Computer Associates
in technical support positions. Lee currently holds certifications as a Microsoft
Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT).
Danny
Mui
Danny Mui is an 11-year veteran of the technology industry.
He has helped build infrastructures for companies like JP Morgan,
Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs, and SG Cowen. Mr.
Mui is currently working at Breakaway Solutions, a leading Internet
full service provider, as a product development engineer. His
educational background includes a B.S. in computer science from
Stony Brook University and an M.B.A. in management and MIS from
New York University.
Harrell Hays Perkins
Harrell Hays Perkins is an independent systems administrator and consultant
for the design, installation, and maintenance of a number of different local
and wide area internetworks located throughout the New York area. He specializes
in migrating enterprise NT4 networks to Native Mode Active Directory Windows
2000 networks. He holds certifications from Microsoft in designing Windows 2000
Directory Services infrastructures, in MCSE, in MCP+I, and in A+.
James M. Santos
James M. Santos has been working in the information technology
industry for fourteen years. He is presently an independent
consultant specializing in the performance tuning, optimization,
and administration of computer systems. He has been involved
in the design and planning of network infrastructures, as well
as in the design, programming, and systems testing of large-scale,
multi-platform business applications. He has written articles
that have been published in Sys Admin, The Journal for UNIX
Systems Administrators.
Bill Ying
Bill Ying is the CTO for Fathom Knowledge Inc., the premier destination for
authenticated knowledge and online learning. At Fathom, he is responsible for
defining Fathom's e-commerce, content management, and Web technology strategies;
building and maintaining the company's IT infrastructure, and investigating
new technologies. He has been involved in the UNIX arena in both the academic
and industrial environments since the early 1980s. Dr. Ying received the D.E.S.
in operations research and the M.S. in industrial engineering and computer science
from Columbia University. He received the B.S. in industrial engineering and
computer science from Cornell University.
