Computer Technology and Applications The CTA Program prepares highly motivated adults for professional
advancement in the information systems field.
Many CTA students currently work in information technology and seek additional
skills in specific areas to enhance their careers.Others are preparing for a major career change. The CTA program offers courses in information technology skills designed to
provide students with practical knowledge immediately applicable in the workplace.
CTA courses do not carry credit toward any academic degree. The program is designed to accommodate the professional and personal obligations
of students who currently may have full-time jobs. At the same time, the curriculum is rigorous and demands a serious commitment
  of time and energy.
Students normally complete the program in four 15-week terms. Students enroll in two courses per term, studying part-time.Most classes are held once a week on weekday evenings (Monday-Friday) and
in some cases on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Laboratory hours are available, and students are expected to devote significant
time to the preparation of class assignments and term projects. CTA courses do not carry credit toward any academic degree. Most CTA classes are held in classrooms and laboratories at two locations:
the University's Morningside Heights campus, and Continuing Education and
Special Programs' new facility at 100 William Street in the heart of Manhattan's
financial district. Candidates who successfully complete a prescribed program of at least four
full terms (two courses per term for a total of 360 course hours) receive:
an official Columbia University certificate transcripts from the University Registrar documenting individual courses
and official final grades Many students extend their study by taking additional courses beyond the eight
required for the certificate. The University extends a substantial tuition discount
to graduates of the CTA Program who wish to enroll in additional courses. Admission to the CTA Program is selective, and the curriculum is challenging.
As a result, graduates of the CTA Program have outstanding and superior opportunities
  for career advancement. | |
