Withdrawal and Adjustment of Fees
If you are in good academic standing and not subject to disciplinary action,
you may withdraw at any time during the term up until the last day of classes.
- Withdrawal is defined as the dropping of your entire program in a given
term as opposed to dropping a portion of your program (see Changing Courses).
- If you are under 21 years of age, your parent or guardian must first give
consent for your withdrawal in writing to the Admissions and Student Affairs
Office.
- All students are required to consult in advance with the Admissions
and Student Affairs Office when withdrawing. Students on academic probation
must consult with an adviser in the Admissions and Student Affairs Office
before attempting to withdraw. Failure to do so may result in expulsion.
- To withdraw, fill out the appropriate paperwork in the Admissions and Student
Affairs Office, 203 Lewisohn. Failure to attend classes or notification
of instructors does not constitute formal withdrawal (see UW, Unofficial
Withdrawal).
- Withdrawals are recorded on transcripts.
Tuition and Fee Adjustment
Any adjustment of the tuition that the student has paid or still owes is reckoned
from the date on which the Admissions and Student Affairs Office receives the
students written notification.
Fees such as the Health Service fee, the Student Medical Insurance premium,
the transcript fee, the University facilities fee, course fees, and late fees
are not refundable if the withdrawal takes place after the change-of-program
period.
After the last day for change of program in each term, the fees are retained
plus an additional percentage of the remaining tuition (see withdrawal schedule)
for each week, or part of a week, that the student remains registered after
these dates (see Calendar).
In all cases, a withdrawal fee of $75 will be assessed. (Note: As with all fees,
the withdrawal fee is not included in the tuition exemption benefits of Columbia
employees.)
