Academic Standards

  • As a student, you are expected to maintain normal academic progress. If you complete your courses in a particular term with the grade point average required in your particular program, you are making normal progress and are in good academic standing.
  • Most of the structured postbaccalaureate programs have specific grade requirements for the award of the certificate. If your performance falls below that level, you will be placed on academic probation or, if the below-standard performance persists for a second term, you will not be permitted to register again.
  • For programs without specific and stated standards, an average of C or better will be taken as evidence that you are making normal progress and are in good academic standing.
  • If your average falls below C, or if fifty percent of your program shows marks of INC or UW in any one semester, you will be placed on academic probation.
  • If you have a second unsatisfactory term, you will not be permitted to register again. All decisions to place a student on academic probation or to dismiss a student for academic reasons are subject to appeal.
  • New students who in the first term of residence receive marks of INC or UW for fifty percent or more of their courses, or those with an average below C (or the stated program standard, which may be higher) may be required to withdraw.

Appeals of Academic Probation or Dismissal

When a student believes that he or she has been placed on probation or dismissed unfairly or inappropriately, he or she may appeal the decision through:

  1. Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs (first contact)
  2. Associate Dean of Continuing Education and Special Programs (second contact)
  3. Dean of Continuing Education and Special Programs (if still aggrieved)
