How to Register

E-mail advisement: [email protected]

  1. Plan your program with the help of an adviser in the Admissions and Student Affairs Office or a departmental adviser (see Course Listing).

  2. Obtain an adviser's approval of your entire program (you may obtain approval via e-mail).

If the description of any course gives as a prerequisite the permission of the instructor offering the course, you should obtain the necessary written approval on your registration form. The form can be found in 203 Lewisohn.

  3. Registration for courses in other divisions of the University that are not listed here requires the approval of the departmental adviser and of the Dean of Continuing Education and Special Programs.

Caution: Registration entails the undertaking of certain obligations with respect to the University. A mistake can be costly in terms of time, anxiety, and money.

If you register by phone, ensure that you enter your registration information correctly.

If you register in person, ensure that you fill out the registration forms correctly.

  4. Telephone Registration: (212) 854-8282

Continuing students who have obtained program approvals and who have received their PIN may register by phone.

New students must obtain program approval and telephone registration materials in person at 203 Lewisohn.

  5. Once you have registered, you may not change your registration in any way until the change-of-program period (see Calendar).

  6. Registration is the mechanical process that reserves seats in particular classes for eligible students. It is accomplished by following the procedures announced in advance of each term's registration period.

Enrollment is the completion of the registration process and affords the full rights and privileges of student status. Enrollment is accomplished by the payment or other satisfaction of tuition and fees.

  7. Final authority for permission to register in any course rests with the Dean. You may register after the late registration period only under extraordinary circumstances.

  8. After you register, you will need a student identification (ID) card in order to use the libraries and facilities of the University. The ID office is located in 204 Kent.
