What's in a Name?

"Nomina sunt consequentia rerum," if we may be allowed to quote loosely from Justinian, Institutiones, II.vii.  The names are the consequence of the things.  The essence of the object lies in its name.  The name of this database comes from its commercial vendor and program, Microsoft Access, and from its application to Digital Scriptorium.  We call it DS-Access.  As has been pointed out to us:  say DS in French and you have a goddess.
