Appendix B - Moving DS-Access after installation

Like most applications, the DS-Access program cannot simply be copied from one machine to another. You can however install DS-Access on a new machine and bring the data from the original machine so that no manuscript information is lost. (Note: If you want to run DS-Access from more than one machine see Sharing DS-Access between multiple computers.) To move DS-Access from one computer to another, follow these steps:

1) On the original machine with DS-Access installed, use Windows Explorer to open the DS-Access installation folder.

Note: By default DS-Access is installed into a hidden folder. To see the DS-Access installation folder your Windows Explorer settings must allow you to see hidden files and folders. On the Tools menu at the top of any folder, select 'Folder Options'. On the 'View' tab, select 'Show hidden files and folders'.

2) Move the DS-Access data file (dsdata.mdb) to a transfer location, such as a network drive or external USB device.

3) On the new machine, perform a standard install as outlined in Installing DS-Access. (Make a note of the DS-Access installation folder in the Setup Wizard.)

4) Use Windows Explorer to open the DS-Access installation folder on the new machine.

5) Replace the DS-Access data file (dsdata.mdb) on the new machine with the file you placed in the transfer location (network share or external USB device).

6) Follow the instructions described in Running DS-Access for the first time. Be sure that you browse to the DS-Access data file (dsdata.mdb) which you moved to a shared location on the network, and then click 'Re-Link Data Tables'.

7) Once DS-Access is open, and the tables have been re-linked, verify all values on the Settings menu, (Default Values, DigitalObjectID options, Derivative URL patterns, etc.).

8) Follow the instructions for Uninstalling DS-Access to remove DS-Access from the old machine.
