Application and Contact Information

Member Students and Visiting Students

BCGS member students are students who attend one of the following schools:

  • Barnard College / Columbia University
  • University of Chicago
  • Cornell University
  • Johns Hopkins University
  • Princeton University
  • University of Pennsylvania
  • Vassar College
  • Yale University

Visiting students are students who attend a college or university other than those listed above.

BCGS Program Prerequisites

  1. You are required to be in good academic and disciplinary standing as a bachelor's degree candidate at an accredited undergraduate college.
  2. You are required to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
  3. You are required to have studied at least two years, preferably more, of college-level German or the equivalent.

Materials

To apply, please submit the following materials:

  1. Completed application for admission, by mail or online
  2. Statement of purpose in German (200–300 words explaining why you wish to attend the BCGS)
  3. Official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended
  4. Dean/Advisor letter of recommendation
  5. German language recommendation form
  6. Nonrefundable application fee of $35 in the form of check or money order made payable to Columbia University (for visiting students only)

BCGS member students should submit applications to their home schools.
