  1. Cornell applicants must complete both the Cornell Abroad application and the Berlin Consortium application. Application materials must be picked up and submitted at Cornell Abroad, 474 Uris Hall. (Do NOT send any materials directly to the Berlin Consortium for German Studies at Columbia University.) There is no application fee.
  2. All applicants must take a German language test, which will be administered by Gunhild Lischke, Lecturer in German at Cornell. You must contact her at [email protected] to discuss the examination and arrange a time to take the test, which is designed to assess your ability to cope with the demands of university courses in German. Plan to be examined when your German language skills are at their highest level, but before the application deadline.
  3. Cornell students admitted to the program will pay the Cornell Abroad tuition (see above), which includes tuition, housing during the intensive German language session at the start of the term, and dormitory housing during the rest of the program. Students who choose to live outside the dorms, and who share quarters with Germans, will receive a subsidy of $1000 per semester toward the cost of their housing.
  4. As for all approved study abroad programs, Cornell financial aid is available on the same basis as if the student remained at Cornell. Financial aid awards may be adjusted if the cost of study in Berlin differs significantly from the cost of studying in Ithaca.

See the Cornell Abroad Web site for more information on finances and financial aid.

For more specific information about the application procedures, the approval process, and the terms of your participation in the Berlin Consortium program, please contact the Cornell Abroad office (contact information above).
