Manuscript level: Institutions
Description: InstitutionCode (Institution Code) is a unique identifier associated with a particular participating Institution. InstitutionCodes are unique across all of Digital Scriptorium's participants, and are required to enable the aggregation of data from all partners.
Technical Description: InstitutionCode is a unique, required field allowing up to 24 characters of any kind. InstitutionCodes are pre-determined by the Technology Host institution (Columbia University), and must consistently represent a single institution across all instances of DS-Access. InstitutionCodes are intended to be human readable, and follow this general format:
[Abbreviated Institution Name]-[State Abbreviation]
Notes: InstitutionCodes are determined and issued by the Technology Host institution (Columbia University), and cannot be added, modified, or deleted via the application. A single instance of DS-Access can manage the holdings of multiple institutions. If a single organization maintains multiple instances of DS-Access on separate machines, an InstitutionCode may appear in multiple databases, although its associated Repositories will not.
