SERIES SEARCHING: CLASSIFICATION: EVALUATING PRECEDENT IN CLIO

  1. If the series is present in CLIO but there is neither a serial nor a set record and there is no authority record in either CLIO or the NAF, check a few of the monographs that are listed in the series index display. Examine the call number in the CHLD screen:

    1. If the call number is not followed by a volume number (for any location) the series is separately classed at Columbia. Proceed to search for monographic copy and catalog the item separately.

    2. If the call number is followed by a volume number (for any location) consult supervisor.

    3. If the only call numbers present in CLIO are the CLIO ID’s of the records (i.e. all of the books received thus far in the series are in precataloging), go to procedures for evaluating copy

  2. If the series is not present at all in CLIO and there is no authority record in the NAF, go to procedures for searching and evaluating copy
