Tucker Balch

Dr. Balch is a Research Director at J.P. Morgan AI Research and a professor of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech (on leave). He is interested in problems concerning multi-agent social behavior in domains ranging from financial markets to tracking and modeling the behavior of ants, honeybees and monkeys. He co-founded Lucena Research, an investment software firm that applies Machine Learning and Big Data approaches to investment problems. Balch has published 120 peer-reviewed articles.
His work has been covered by the Wall Street Journal, CNN, New Scientist, Institutional Investor, and the New York Times. His graduated students work at NASA/JPL, Boston Dynamics, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Citadel, AQR, and BlackRock. Before his career in computing, Tucker was an F-15 pilot in the US Air Force.
Simerjot Kaur

Simerjot Kaur is an AI Research Lead at JP Morgan AI Research. Her research interests include Natural Language Processing, deep learning, cognitive AI, knowledge graphs, and neuro-symbolic AI. She has more than a decade of experience working at the intersection of Quantitative Finance and advanced computing and has been instrumental in helping financial institutions leverage deep learning and natural language processing for business transformation and growth. Previously, she worked at Bank of America where she built innovative solutions for continuous monitoring of market risk and front office controls. Simerjot finished her graduate studies in Artificial Intelligence at Stanford University and Operations Research at Columbia University. Simerjot has served on the program committee for the ICML 2021 Workshop on Representation Learning for Finance and e-Commerce Applications, and the 2021 Women in AI and Finance workshop at ICAIF.
Abhijit Bose

Abhijit Bose is the Managing Vice President for Capital One’s Center for Machine Learning (C4ML). Prior to joining Capital One, Abhijit served as Facebook’s Head of Engineering (Montreal, NYC, Pittsburg) for Facebook AI Research. With over 20+ years of data science expertise, Abhijit encompasses an impressive technical and academic career history. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, received his dual-Masters in Mechanical Engineering as well as Computer Science, and received his dual-Ph.D in Computer Science and Engineering Mechanics. Before joining Facebook, Abhihit was the Managing Director of Data Science for JP Morgan's Digital Organization. He’s also worked for IBM, Google, and American Express. Abhijit and his wife live in New Jersey with their 6-year-old twins and their family pet Eskie. When he’s not working, Abhijit enjoys spending time volunteering with his family at their local animal shelter, as well as hiking and touring state parks.
Mohammad Ghassemi

Dr. Mohammad Ghassemi is a scientist and entrepreneur with extensive national and international consulting experience. He holds a Ph.D from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in electrical engineering and computer science with a focus on artificial intelligence. Dr. Ghassemi was formerly a director of data science at S&P Global, and a strategic consultant with BCG. He has over ten years of technical and strategic consulting experience working with many of the world’s largest organizations. In 2018, his company (Ghamut Corporation) was the recipient of an NSF Small Business Innovation Research grant.
In 2018, Dr. Ghassemi joined Michigan State University as an Assistant Professorship in Computer Science where he develops tools and systems that combine human and machine intelligence (A.I.) to solve problems that neither humans nor machines can solve as effectively alone. In 2021, he was named as one of nine individuals to serve as a National Scholar for Data and Technology Advancement at the NIH where he led the development of BRAINWORKS, a novel technology platform to visualize 40+ years of scientific knowledge as an interactive graph.
He is the lead inventor on multiple US Patents, the author of a widely consumed book on health informatics (over 1 Million downloads), and has authored over 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers in venues including: Nature (Scientific Data), Science (Translational Medicine), Proceedings of the IEEE, and the Proceedings of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. His scientific contributions have been cited over 5,000 times, and have been featured by several media outlets including: the BBC, NPR, The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. In 2021, he was named an "AI Champion" by AIMed for his contributions to the intersection of AI and medicine.
