3.5.2.2 Legacy Image

The universally useful bits in the tab headed Technical Metadata are intended to help workflow, especially for the ever fragile link between bibliographic and photographic progress.  I refer to the two last items in this tab:  Legacy Image; Status.

[man-image-status]

Legacy Image should be checked if the image in question was not captured specifically for DS, but if it was inherited from another project or campaign, whether digital or via film intermediary.  This will allow your institution, at any point, to tally up the number of images produced to a standard other than DS's, since your institution may want to apply for new funding for replacement photography; or it may be useful in answering a reader's inquiry about the nature of the image; it is a basic piece of knowledge about an image, and we thought you'd like to track it.
