Manuscript level: Repositories

Description: RepositoryCode is a unique identifier associated with a particular collection or holding unit within an Institution. RepositoryCodes are unique across all of Digital Scriptorium's participants, and are required to enable the aggregation of data from all partners.

Technical Description: RepositoryCode is a unique, required field allowing up to 8 characters of any kind. RepositoryCodes are pre-determined by the Technology Host institution (Columbia University), and must consistently represent a single repository across all instances of DS-Access. RepositoryCodes generally match or follow the format of the MARC Code List for Organizations developed by the Library of Congress.

Notes: RepositoryCodes are determined and issued by the Technology Host institution (Columbia University), and cannot be added, modified, or deleted via the application. A single instance of DS-Access can manage the holdings of multiple repositories. If a single institution maintains multiple instances of DS-Access on separate machines, a RepositoryCode will appear in only one instance, although its holding institution may appear in multiple instances.
