Summer Program for High School Students

Frequently Answered Questions

Application Procedures

How many students apply and how many do you accept?
We accept 800-850 students out of approximately 1,300 applications. Typically 750–775 students attend the program.

When is it too late to apply?
Applications are considered in the order in which the application packet is received; the sooner the packet is submitted the better. We consider applications until spots for a particular program are all taken.

What are you looking for in an applicant?
We are looking for highly motivated students who are interested in attending the Summer Program because they have a passion for learning and because they wish to enrich their knowledge of a particular field.

What if my PSAT or SAT scores are low?
We do not ask for either score as part of the application. If these scores are available, we will look at them, particularly in the case of students applying to study science or math. However, we do not value one piece of an application packet over another, but rather look at the whole student.

I took the program last year. Must I reapply?
Yes, we ask that you submit another application along with your recent transcript of grades. Your application should be accompanied by a note mentioning that you have been in the program before. You need not resubmit the personal statement or recommendation letters.

May I apply to Session I and Session II?
Yes, you may apply to take courses in both sessions. Please remember that only Session I is residential. Make certain that you indicate clearly your interest in both sessions on your application form.

When will I be notified of an admissions decision?
We have rolling admissions so that when your application file is complete, it will go to the Admissions Committee for a decision.
