BACKGROUND

Cataloging priority plays an important role in determining the routing and physical processing of materials. This document summarizes the ranking and meanings of cataloging priorities and the colored riders used to identify them.

Wide GREEN rider* Item for reserves
Highest
Slim GREEN rider* Item with reader request (C33)
Second highest
RED rider* Priority 1 item, also called "red rush"
Third highest
No priority rider Priority 2 item
Fourth highest

* Monographs with these priority riders do not get processed for Precat. If no standard copy is available on first handling, they are routed to OSMC for original cataloging.
