Manuscript Level:  Reproductions

Definition:  Publicly displayed field, to contain either a bibliographic citation of a facsimile or in-house indication of microfilm, microfiche, negatives, etc.

Comment:  Since DS traditionally contains a selection of images rather than the entire manuscript, if a full facsimile exists, it will be very helpful to readers to cite it. To include microfilm master negative numbers or the like is perhaps more useful to the library staff.

Example:

  • Geoffrey Chaucer, The Canterbury tales: the new Ellesmere Chaucer monochromatic facsimile (of Huntington Library MS EL 26 C 9), ed. by D. H. Woodward and Martin Stevens (San Marino, Calif.: Huntington Library; Tokyo: Yushodo, 1997)

Properties:  Data type: text. Field size: 255 characters.

Required?:  No.
