Manuscripts Table (tblManuscripts)

Manuscript Level:  City

Definition:  The name of the city that is the home of the institution that owns the manuscript.

Comment:  The content of this field will be set to a local default, by entering the chosen term in DS-Access, under Settings menu, in Default Values. There are some collections that are legally held by one institution with two locations, or even by two institutions in two cities (e.g. manuscripts acquired jointly by Notre Dame University and by the Newberry Library in Chicago). Although normally the city alone fulfills the intellectual need of the field, the home institution may decide to include the state. Since the data within the City field is entirely controlled by the inputting institution, the institution may use whichever form it chooses.

Example:

  • Berkeley
  • Notre Dame / Chicago
  • Conception (MO)

Properties:  Data type: text. Field size: 50 characters.

Required?:  Yes.
