An APPEND parameter has been added to the ALTER TABLE statement. It is used to indicate whether data is appended to the end of a table or inserted where free space is available. Specifying APPEND ON can improve performance, as it allows for faster inserts and eliminates the maintenance of free space information. See "Altering Tables" and the SQL Reference for details.
