Quick Beginnings for DB2 Universal Database for UNIX

Understanding System Administrative Authority

System Administrative (SYSADM) authority is required to perform administration tasks such as cataloging, starting the database manager, or creating the sample database. By default, any user belonging to the primary group of the instance owner has SYSADM authority. Throughout the book, IDs that have this authority are referred to as having SYSADM authority. To change the group that has SYSADM authority on the default instance, see Working with the System Administrative Group.
