Setting the userid and password for a specific system, instance, or database

Use the Connect and Attach windows to set the userid and password for the selected database, instance or system.

The default userid and password, shown in the Control Center title bar, will be used for all database objects unless you explicitly set it for a specific object using Connect or Attach.

Before you begin...

To set the userid and password for a database, system or instance:

1. To set the userid and password for a specific database object, do one of the following:

   • To set the userid and password for all objects related to a database, click mouse button 2 on the object and select Connect from the pop-up menu. The Connect window opens.

   • To set the userid and password for an instance, click mouse button 2 on the object and select Attach from the pop-up menu. The Attach window opens.

     Note:

     The userid and password used to attach to an instance is used for all objects related to the instance, including related database objects (unless you explicitly set userid and password for a specific database).

   • To set the userid and password for a system, click mouse button 2 on the object and select Attach from the pop-up menu. The Attach window opens.

     Note:

     The userid and password used to attach to a system overrides the default userid and password (shown in the Control Center title bar) and is used for all objects related to the system, including related instance and database objects (unless you explicitly set userid and password for a specific database or instance).

2. In the User Id field, type the user identifier.

3. In the Password field, type the password for the user identifier.

4. Click on OK to connect to the database, or attach to the system or instance.
