Performing a simple restore

Use the Backup Image page of the restore notebook to specify the backup image that you want to use to restore the database or database partition.

Note:

In a partitioned database environment, you restore at the database partition level.

Before you begin...

To restore the database or database partition without any options:

1. Open the restore notebook:

   • Open the Restore Database notebook.

   • Open the Restore Database Partition notebook.

   • Open the Restore notebook from the Journal.

2. On the Backup Image page, specify the backup image that you want to use for the restore operation:

   • To use one of the backup images that are displayed, click on Select an entry from the list, then select the backup image that you want to use. The backup image should have been taken offline.

     If you have already created a backup image of the database or database partition from this administrative client, Select an entry from the list is preselected because the recovery history file for the database or database partition indicates that a backup image is available.

     If you know that the media type that is displayed for the backup image is not correct, then use the fields that are displayed under Change the media information if necessary to specify the correct media type for the backup image.

   • To use a backup image that is not displayed, click on Manually enter the backup image information. Use the fields that are displayed with Manually enter the backup image information to specify the backup image that you want to use. The backup image should have been taken offline.

     If you have not already created a backup image of the database or database partition from this administrative client, Manually enter the backup image information is preselected because the recovery history file for the database or database partition does not contain any backup history.

3. On the Roll-Forward page, clear the Leave in roll-forward pending state check box. This makes the database or database partition usable immediately after the restore operation. (By default, this check box is on).

   Note:

   If the backup image was taken online, the database or database partition will be in the roll-forward pending state. You will have to roll forward the database to make it usable.

4. Click on OK to begin the restore operation.
