Leaving the database or database partition in the roll-forward pending state

Use the Roll-Forward page of the roll-forward notebook to specify that you want to leave the database or database partition in the roll-forward pending state at the end of the roll-forward operation.

Note:

Before you can do forward recovery, the database object must already be in the roll-forward pending state (which you can specify when you restore the database or database partition), and you must have the database logs.

Before you begin...

To leave the database or database partition in the roll-forward pending state:

1. Open the roll-forward notebook:

   • Open the Roll-Forward Database notebook.

   • Open the Roll-Forward Database Partition notebook.

2. On the Roll-Forward page, specify the type of roll-forward recovery that you want:

   • Roll-Forward to the end of the logs. All changes recorded in the logs are reapplied to the database or database partition.

     Note:

     If you need to restore a single database partition, you can perform roll-forward recovery to the end of the logs to bring it up to the same level as the other database partitions in the database.

   • Roll-Forward to a point in time. Changes in the logs up to and including the date and time indicated are reapplied to the database or database partition.

     Note:

     In a partitioned database environment, the database is located across many database partition servers. In this environment, if you are performing point-in-time roll-forward recovery on a database partition, all database partitions must be rolled forward to ensure that all partitions are at the same level.

3. To leave the database or database partition in the roll-forward pending state, ensure that the Leave in roll-forward pending state check box is selected.

4. On the Options page, select one of the Process while radio buttons, either Online or Offline. Offline is the default.

5. Click on OK to begin the roll-forward process.
