DB2 Connect User's Guide
The term database is used throughout this book to describe a
relational database management system (RDBMS). Other systems with which
DB2 Connect communicates may use the term database to describe a
slightly different concept. The DB2 Connect term database is
equivalent to:
- MVS
- A DB2 for MVS/ESA subsystem identified by its LOCATION NAME.
This name is defined in the Boot Strap Data Set (BSDS) and is also provided
in the DSNL004I message (LOCATION=location) which is written when the Distributed Data Facility (DDF) is started.
- OS/390
- A DB2 for OS/390 subsystem identified by its LOCATION NAME.
This name is defined in the Boot Strap Data Set (BSDS) and is also provided
in the DSNL004I message (LOCATION=location) which is written when the Distributed Data Facility (DDF) is started.
- VSE
- DB2 for VSE running in a partition identified by its DBNAME
- VM
- DB2 for VM running in a CMS virtual machine identified by its DBNAME
- OS/400
- DB2 for AS/400, an integral part of the OS/400 operating
system. Only one database can exist on an AS/400 machine. If the
database will be used by applications outside the AS/400 system, the database
must be given a name in the relational database directory.
