The course will be lecture-based, with problem sets, quizzes, and in-class exams to reinforce the learning of material. The course will introduce the notation and concepts of probability and statistics that are relevant for regression estimation and causal inference in epidemiology. This will include set theory, probability, random variables, expectation, variance, covariance, probability distributions, basic calculus, convergence, the central limit theorem, sampling, and the bootstrap. We will also cover how to develop and use simulations in R as a tool for increasing understanding and verifying mathematical relationships. |
