| Course Description | This is an introduction to reading Korean Buddhist texts. These texts, mostly written in Classical Chinese, include apologetics, doctrinal exegeses, edifying tracts, Sŏn texts, devotional writings, temple gazetteers, divination books, ritual manuals, and literary poems and essays. Throughout the course, we will read excerpts from different genres in different styles, gaining exposure to the diversity of Korean Buddhist texts and developing the skills to read other Korean Buddhist texts necessary for research. |
